At Erina Kindergarten, we believe children learn through meaningful experiences that connect with their interests, curiosity, and the world around them. Our educators create opportunities for children to explore, experiment, create, and develop new skills through everyday learning.
Today, we are pleased to introduce Miss Sunabi, the Room Leader in our Emus Room, who has been part of the Erina Kindergarten team for almost one and a half years.
Supporting Learning Through Children's Interests
Sunabi enjoys creating learning experiences that are inspired by what children are interested in.
By observing children's play, conversations, questions, and discoveries, educators can develop experiences that encourage children to investigate topics that are meaningful to them.
Sunabi incorporates children's interests into ongoing project investigations, arts and crafts, and special events, helping children become active participants in their own learning.
Exploring Our Kindergarten Gardens
One of Sunabi's favourite experiences is taking children into the garden.
At Erina Kindergarten, children have opportunities to visit and observe our bunnies and chickens, as well as explore the plants growing throughout our garden. 🐰🐔🌱
Children can also participate in harvesting herbs, fruits, and vegetables. These hands-on experiences allow children to discover where food comes from and develop an appreciation for nature and living things.
Being outdoors also provides opportunities for children to observe changes in plants, ask questions, use their senses, and develop their understanding of the natural environment.
Learning Through Gardening
Gardening can provide children with many opportunities for learning.
When children plant, care for, and harvest produce, they can develop skills such as:
Patience and responsibility
Observation and curiosity
Fine and gross motor skills
Understanding of natural processes
Awareness of healthy food
Respect for plants and animals
These experiences can turn everyday activities such as watering plants or harvesting herbs into meaningful learning opportunities.
Encouraging Creativity Through Arts and Crafts
Sunabi also enjoys creating arts and crafts experiences with the children.
Rather than simply following a predetermined activity, she likes to connect creative experiences with children's interests, project investigations, and special events.
This gives children opportunities to explore different materials, develop their own ideas, and express themselves creatively.
Whether children are creating something inspired by fruits and vegetables, exploring a current project, or preparing for a special event, the focus is on encouraging curiosity and participation.
Connecting Indoor and Outdoor Learning
For Sunabi, some of the most meaningful learning happens when children can connect different experiences together.
A visit to the garden might inspire questions about plants and vegetables. Those observations can then become the starting point for an art activity, a group discussion, or a project investigation.
This approach helps children make connections between what they see, what they experience, and what they create.
Meet the Erina Kindergarten Team
At Erina Kindergarten, our educators are passionate about creating learning experiences that encourage children to explore, discover, and develop confidence.
We are delighted to have Miss Sunabi as part of our team and love seeing the meaningful experiences she creates with the children in the Emus Room.
From exploring our gardens and caring for animals to creating art and investigating children's interests, Sunabi helps children discover that learning can happen everywhere.
At Erina Kindergarten, we encourage children to learn through curiosity, creativity, nature, and meaningful everyday experiences.
